CHR: I first came to Place Blanche in 1947. Place Blanche became very important – ’the transsexuals’ is an important part of my photographic activities and my relation to the pictures I take. Then there is a standpoint to that way of living, as a prostitute. It was difficult to understand their lives and how they managed and why. Strömholm was a student of art under Waldemar Winkler and Dick Beer. He was a member of Otto Steinert 's Fotoform group of photographers for subjective photography. He co-founded Fotoskolan academy in Stockholm in 1962 and was its director.
